Bob’s your uncle, not your photographer
This is some important advice here.
So you find out how much a photographer costs and you think, how hard is it to take some pictures?
I beg you, please do not try hire Uncle Bob. I know he's been taking great pictures with his phone and just got a fancy new camera. The fact is, they don’t have the experience to photograph a wedding. Professional photographers wear many hats during a wedding. They have to be a portrait photographer, street photographer, product photographer, landscape photographer and do all this while getting their settings right and keeping the clients at ease. They've spent countless hours learning how light works and how to capture it properly. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO… All these things become tricky and it’s a balancing act with your settings. Professional photographers know how to deal with low light situations which can be very tricky and almost always come up during a wedding day. They have spent a lot of money on gear and countless hours of studying and learning, not to mention the editing process. Most of the photos you see don't come out of the camera like that. They have learned how to edit them and make them look amazing with software that takes a long time to learn how to use. Trust me, there is a reason photographers charge what they do for their services. Please don’t let a relative talk you into helping you save money by being your photographer. They may actually be trying to save themselves money as they disguise their photography as a wedding gift! Also it is never good to work with family is these situations. Let them enjoy the day with you instead of working. There’s a good chance “Uncle Bob” will start joining in on the party and stop worrying about the job. Things will be out of focus and the exposure will be too far off to fix or they will simply miss important moments because they are at the bar getting another drink. When you're unsatisfied, you’ll either have to keep your mouth shut or tell him. Either way, there will be disappointment had. Please, if you care anything about the outcome of your wedding photos, hire a professional, not Uncle Bob.
